How to brain storm for writing a short story?

I am in a script writing course right now for my major. I have no intentions about being a writer, so I am having trouble starting. What are some techniques to come up story concepts? Right now I am overwhelmed. In my mind there are SOOOOO MANY possibilities for a story. Where do you begin? From experienced writers, how do you begin your quest to create a story?
